Joshua DeSure is a Los Angeles–based photographer and lighting tech/photo assistant whose work is shaped by years spent working on professional sets as well as observing everyday life through a camera. Moving between commercial productions, editorial environments, and personal work, DeSure approaches photography with both a technical understanding of light and a sensitivity to the human moments that happen in front of the lens.

Working as a lighting technician and photo assistant has played a significant role in shaping his perspective. Time spent collaborating with photographers, cinematographers, gaffers, and production teams has given him a deep respect for the craft of image-making and the collaborative nature of set life. For DeSure, understanding light—how it moves, how it shapes a subject, and how it influences mood—is as important as the moment being photographed.

Communication, trust, and attentiveness guide his approach, both on set and in his personal work. Whether assisting on large-scale productions or photographing independently, he values the relationships that develop through the process of making images. The camera becomes a tool not only for observation, but for connection between photographer, subject, and viewer.

Through his photography and his work in lighting, DeSure continues to explore the balance between technical precision and instinct—finding meaning in both carefully constructed images and the fleeting moments that exist just outside of them.
